STINGER ® Screw Conveyor

The STINGER ® Screw Conveyor (patent pending) was developed by The Young Industries, Inc. to solve the problem of metering and conveying TIO 2 , pigments and other cohesive powders. Past methods used mechanical screw feeders and conveyors which required substantial amounts of torque, experienced buildup on the auger and interior surfaces making it difficult to have a uniform flow rate. Because of the interior build up it was not possible to get accurate metering. High maintenance costs resulting from frequent repair of the augers and the difficultly in cleaning were additional problems.
The STINGER ® Screw conveyor introduced in May 2006 uses Trans-Flow ® technology to condition cohesive powder materials. This technology along with our unique auger improves the flow accuracy and provides better reliability in handling materials with poor flow characteristics. STINGER ® Screw conveyors use less horsepower. A STINGER ® Screw conveyor needs 75% less horsepower than required for mechanical screw conveyor.
The STINGER ® screw conveyor consists of a solid metal outer tube with an inlet transition, interior tube and discharge section lined with TransFlow ® conditioning media. The powder in the conveying zone is conditioned using low pressure compressed air.
Trans-Flow ® conditioning media is porous 316 stainless steel material with an ultra smooth finished contact surface manufactured for precise control of permeability and strength. Young's TransFlow ® technology has being successfully used in the SilentFlow ® bin discharger and STINGER ® conveyor products for over 10 years. This media produces an evenly distributed layer of air that floats the bulk material above the media. This boundary layer above the media reduces buildup, friction and wear. This makes it easier for the material to slide by eliminating compaction and drag.
The STINGER ® Screw conveyor's auger is driven by a variable speed direct drive motor. This smaller compact motor and direct drive along with the low headroom design makes it easy to install in existing processes. The product conditioned by Trans-Flow ® media makes the unit easier of clean.
STINGER ® Screw conveyors are available in 1 ½" to 12" diameter with conveying capacities from 20 to 40,000 lbs/hour or more. Using the unit with a load cell system can provide better batch weighing accuracy than is achievable with current designs.
