The customers application included metering free flowing Spherical beads in a process at a variable rate. Due to the size and shape of the process vessel above the rotary valve, a large rectangular flange connection is needed. The beads are 1/8” diameter and weigh 125 lbs. per cu. ft. The operating temperature is 1000° F.
Solution
The Side Entry Rotary Valve was an easy choice for the metering requirement. The Side Entry allows for a maximum of 40% pocket fill and will not break or clip the beads. The 12” x 24” flange connection most closely matched the process vessel above. The requirement for variable flow control was solved by placing an external adjustment on to the inlet baffle to control the flow of beads into the rotor. Due to the added length of the valve, we supplied a dual external adjustment system.
